[vsnet-lpv 4] R Cen

R Cen has shown a dramatic _increase_ in minimum magnitude[s] over the
past few years, as shown by aavso observations available via the aavso
data request server.

Maximum is mostly unaffected, and strangely mean magnitude may not have
changed dramatically.

Period appears to be declining at an increased rate.

W S G Walker informs me that past UBV photometry shows the 520-530 day
periodicity, with the main peak of this double peaked Mira being red,
and the secondary one blue.

This unique double peaked Mira star is changing its nature, or at least
its lightcurve, and something dramatic _could_ possibly happen as the
amplitude dips ever further.

UBVRI [or Stromgren and/or Wing] photometry, and possibly radial
velocity monitoring, would help investigate this special and unique
event/star. Kindly feel free to pass this info on to any professionals
interested in these stars.

Cheers
