NSV 4082 was catalogued by Bidelman and MacConnell (1973AJ.....78..687B) to be a possible Mira star. The position they give is only accurate to about 1'. I have looked up the area on Stardial images (http://vsnet.astro.uiuc.edu/stardial/), and found GSC 04853-01862 to be the most probable candidate (1.5' SW from the NSV position). It is clearly variable on the POSSI and SERCEJ plates (from the USNOFS Image and Catalogue Archive operated by the United States Naval Observatory, Flagstaff Station http://vsnet.nofs.navy.mil/data/fchpix/), taken at different epochs. The Stardial images show an amplitude of somewhat less than 2 magnitudes (unfiltered CCD), and a period of 304 days (epoch maximum JD 2451538). Position (USNO-B1.0 0867-0188840): 08 26 26.80 -03 17 43.7. Other ID's (found through the VizieR utility of the CDS): GSC 2.2 S102011116246 IRAS 08239-0307 2MASS 126.611699 -03.295481 ROSAT 1RXS J082610.8-031955 (given by Voges et.al. 1999A&A...349..389V; seems doubtful however as it is more than 2' distant) Patrick __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
