Obs., 47, 171-204 (1975) List of probable long-period variables of M types revealed in red light by means of spectral features. version: 2 Feb 2002 original list revision published as: 1997IBVS.4417....1S This file revisits a list of red stars by Dolidze, originally worked over in IBVS 4417 (http://vsnet.konkoly.hu/cgi-bin/IBVS?4417). Besides improving the coordinates, I was also able to recover two stars with gross position errors that I had not been able to find previously. In a large number of cases among the northern-hemisphere stars, the best available position is that from the corrected GSC-ACT, which proves to be reliable at the ~0".3 level. Many of the stars appear in the 2MASS catalogue, but are saturated and the 2MASS positions are off by a few arcsec. The table shows 'best' coordinates, IRAS and GSC identifications, Dolidze's spectral type (often an average of several determinations), and GCVS names. Where there is no IRAS ID, I give MSX names as available in the notes, which also contain other relevant comments.
