The table below shows identifications and coordinates (as needed) for 170 suspected early-M supergiants found by Albers in a 1972 spectral survey of the southern galactic plane (1972ApJ...176..623A). The stars are often not worked into SIMBAD correctly, and numerous errors are present, many of which are due to typos in the Albers paper. Albers' numbers are shown in the first column. An asterisk by the name indicates a note at the bottom (necessary for more than half the stars). The next column shows HD or CD/CPD names as available, following the HD convention for the latter. Alternate CD/CPD names are provided as necessary in the notes. If there is no HD/DM name, then the primary designation should be the IRAS name. The coordinates come mostly from UCAC1 (code U in column 's') or Tycho-2 (T), plus a single position from GSC-ACT (G). No coordinates are shown when the SIMBAD position is already a precise one, or if there is some ambiguity in previous identifications. GSC and IRAS names follow. IRAS names are _not_ shown if the ID is already made in SIMBAD. Albers' spectral types appear in the final column. The great majority of the stars have been confirmed as supergiants, and this appears to be the case even when Houk indicates the stars are ordinary class III giants. I was surprised at the number of VV Cep-type binaries involved. Some of the type M0 stars are slightly earlier type (K5), but this modest error is not surprising given the small dispersion used for the spectra. The notes include additional IDs and various corrections. If the star is not in IRAS, then the name from the MSX catalogue is given. GCVS names are given as available. \Brian =============================================================================== source: 1972ApJ...176..623A ALBERS H. Astrophys.
