Re: Which is V503 Her? (from Samus)
Thanks to all who have replied. I have been relieved to hear the
identity. This star is one of "my old friends", and I tried to discriminate
which candidate is the symbiotic variable by chance spectroscopy.
The brighter = the true V503 Her = ROTSE variable star indeed showed
emission lines. Symbiotic star observers should pay special attention,
since conventional chart drawing programs quite easily locate V503 Her
at the fainter GSC position; this identification has been taken over
by visual observers, since all available reports to VSNET showed V503 Her
fainter than 13.5, not 12-th mag for the true variable!
