[vsnet-id 192] LM Cas slightly misidentified

     Puzzled somewhat by conflicting data on the dwarf nova LM Cas, I have
made a positive identification of this faint object.  The variable has hitherto
been identified with a mag. 16 star (see charts in Bruch et al. (1987)
1987A&AS...70..481B and Downes & Shara (1993) 1993PASP..105..127D.  But the
comments given by Hoffmeister in the discovery paper (1949ANErg..12a...3H)
indicate the variable is the faint companion immediately northeast of this
star, which is marked on the D&S image.  Hoffmeister's description reads:
"nahe am Ort ein Stern 16m, der Ver\"anderliche anscheinend dicht nord\"ostlich
davon; das Paar ist auch auf den besten Platten nicht sauber getrennt."
     An improved position is:  23 12 59.7   +56 51 20 (2000).  Images from
all the sky-survey scans covering a 2'x2' field centered on the pair are 
available (for ~24 hours) from the USNO-Flagstaff pixel server:

One could suspect that the star was in a somewhat elevated state at the time
of the POSS-II IIIa-F exposure (...sf0191.000.jpg).
