Subject: Variables in Cepheus

Dear Dr. Williams,

Your list of accurate coordinates of variable stars is most helpful in our
work. We proceed from constellation to constellation, trying to improve
positions for as many GCVS stars as possible, and we always check our
results with your list. Maybe you are interested in cases of disagreement.
I have just finished the constellation Cepheus (where I have quite a
number of additional accurate positions), and I have an opinion different
from yours in four cases.

DY Cep: I identify it with GSC 4288.1103; my identification agrees with
L.Plaut, A&AS, 1977, 28, 169, though I must admit that the chart is not
very good, and alternative solutions are possible.

HO Cep: My identification is an A2.0 star at 22h34m21s.840
+62deg36'03".82, 2000.0, in perfect agreement with the finding chart.

IO Cep: The star is actually GSC 3961.328. The finding chart in IBVS No.
749 is wrong (the coordinates published in the cited paper being correct),
correct charts can be found in Astron. Tsirk. No. 38 or in MVS, Bd. 5,
S.126.

LQ Cep: I think your A1.0 identification is correct but the GSC number
(4248.1013) refers to the variable's western companion. IBVS No. 749
erroneously announces the western star to vary, corrected in IBVS No. 770.

Best regards
Nikolai Samus
