Given Timo Kinnunen's work on the MVS chart series, I thought I'd try my hand at some later Hoffimeister lists. Here are positions and IDs from a 1959 paper giving mostly RR Lyrae variables in Hercules. Despite being mostly fairly faint, these were easy to do compared to lists I've dealt with recently thanks to their high latitude. Hoffmeister's charts are reasonably good, although sometimes slightly rotated or distorted. It was easy to check uncertain cases using DSS frames from SkyView. In Table 1, most of the positions were drawn from de Martino et al.'s 1996 paper (1996IBVS.4322....1D) on south galactic pole variables identified as part of the Yale proper-motion program. For the other stars, the positions are all from USNO-A2.0, although I did make GSC links afterwards using VizieR. A few new IDs are given in the remarks. \Brian ============================ source: 1959AN....284..275H HOFFMEISTER C. Astron. Nachr., 284, 275-280 (1959) 89 neue veranderliche sterne. Sonne.
