Further to vsnet-id 43, Arne Henden notes that identification of the FASTT variables with some 100 known stars was made in Table 3 of Henden & Stone (1998 AJ 115,296). These links have not been made in SIMBAD, but I did not mean to give the impression that I made the identifications myself. From the several dozen cases I checked inter alia while making the match-ups with IRAS and with the Wachmann SA 98 variables, it is clear that the GCVS identifications were done carefully by Henden & Stone, and that dubious ones were not listed. In re my mention of the quasar 2E 1013, Arne says the FASTT positions were formerly taken with reference to a radio/visible astrometric reference frame of extragalactic objects, and so quasars even more distant than z=0.92 were observed regularly with the transit telescope. Finally, Arne mentions also that the second paper of the series, now in preparation, will contain some 2600 new variables. \Brian
