Subject: Suggestions for VARSTARS list users

The mail traffic of the VARSTARS have increased a lot
during the last few months. All the data is of course
valuable, but some users who are not reading the mail
daily and some system beyond phone lines are in the
      little problem.

To make this list more usable and easier to find informat-
ion, I have a little proposal:

         - Send more "high-lites" ie. info about eruptions,
           maxima, extra-ordinary event, news...

         - For more common observation data, collect these
into the larger reports eg. monthly review or
so.. Observation groups can collect their data
           together.

         - Use descriptive subjects of email: eg. Maximum
of xxxx at ... Observational report from xxxx,
           period xxxx etc.

I would also notify all the readers that FTP server
       ftp.funet.fi, directory /pub/astro/obsdbase is
available for longer summaries of observations, eg.
novae.. Please upload your data into pub/astro/incoming
subdirectory and notify me be mail.

Another note is for our non-Scandinavian subscribers.
VARSTARS is still mailing list also for Scandivian
co-operation, so there could be some local information
and news of SVSO (Scandivian Variable Star Observers).
So your could easily ignore these message.

                                        regards,

                                        Veikko Makela,
                                        moderator of
                                        VARSTAR mailing list
