The recurrent novae T Coronae Borealis (NR) and RS Ophiuchi (NR) and the
old nova GK Persei (NA) were detected near minimum. V1974 Cygni (Nova 1992)
is fading slowly. Nova Aquilae 1993 has brightened since 1993 July and its
behaviour resembled that of DQ Herculis (Nova 1934) and QV Vulpeculae
(Nova 1987).

The following dwarf novae have been detected in outburst: RX Andromedae,
SY Cancri, YZ Cancri (two normal maxima), HL Canis Majoris (bright maxi-
mum), SS Cyg (anomalous outburst of short duration), AH Herculis, X Leonis,
CN Orionis, KT Persei (long outburst) and BZ Ursae Majoris. Z Camelopar-
dalis and TZ Persei were seen at standstill. P. Schmeer has reported that
BZ UMa was undergoing a rare outburst on 1993 Oct 26.072 UT (mv = 12.4).
Apart from an uncertain sighting by H. Dahle it was not seen the following
night. It was subsequently reported in The Astronomer Electronic Circular
No. 785 that BZ UMa was detected by Pietz at mv = 11.5 on Oct 24.953 UT.

VY Canis Majoris (*) is a red supergiant variable of unique type. Despite a
maximum altitude of 4 degrees (from latitude +60 degrees) it was clearly
seen, due to the transparent atmosphere. R Coronae Borealis (RCB) was about
two magnitudes fainter than its normal maximum brightness in October. The
other R CrB star SU Tauri faded dramatically in 1993 March and is still
very faint. R Monocerotis (INA) is the object connected with Hubble's Vari-
able Nebula (NGC 2261). The nebular variable RR Tauri (INAS) has been
active and the nova-like object V Sagittae (NL) is still faint. FG Sagit-
tae (*) - the central star of the planetary nebula PK 60-7.1 - has partly
recovered from it deep minimum last autumn. The magnitudes of FG Sge are
combined with its mag. 13 companion.

Note: An asterisk (*) denotes a variable of unique type.
