[vsnet-history 1055] V344 Lyr revised period (Kato)

(1993 May 27)

subject:revised period of V344 Lyr

V344 Lyr (UGSU)

    Analysis of the V-band CCD frames on May 25 and 26 yields following
update. The observations were made using 60-cm reflector at Ouda Station
(Nara, Japan), Kyoto University.

  1) Nightly magnitude
     Using GSC V=10.9 as a standard, the ranges of variability were
     V = 14.0 - 14.3 (May 25), and V = 14.2 - 14.4 (May 26).
     This rate of decline is typical for a superoutburst of an SU UMa-type
     dwarf nova.

  2) Amplitude of variation
     The amplitude of superhumps decreased from 0.34 mag on May 25 to
     0.2 mag on May 26.

  3) The light curve
     The light curves showed steeper rise and slower decline, which are
     typical for superhumps in an early phase of development.
     No secondary maxima were detectable.

  4) The times of maxima and revised superhump period
      May UT    E    O-C
       25.601   0  -0.002
       25.693   1  -0.001
       25.788   2   0.003
       26.608  11   0.001
       26.698  12  -0.000
       26.789  13  -0.001
      O-C's are calculated using the formula:
      Max.UT = 25.603 + 0.09132 E

      The revised superhump period is thus 0.09132 +/- 0.00010 day,
      which is one of the longest known among SU UMa-type dwarf novae
      below the period gap (cf. YZ Cnc P_SH = 0.09204 day).

Regards,
Taichi Kato (Kyoto University)
