Subject: SN 93J: correction, and quick update
5-19-93
Dear SN 1993J'ers:
Correction to the previous message:
I meant to say that extra efforts should be made to observe the
supernova at the upcoming BRIGHT run, when many telescopes will not
be suitably equipped for low-dispersion optical spectroscopy.
Also, there will be at least a few additional participants at the
Xian special session on SN 1993J:
Craig Wheeler et al. --- results from McDonald Observatory
P. Ho"flich et al. --- modeling
Paul Muldin et al. --- results from the INT Group telescopes
Fransson and Chevalier --- circumstellar interaction
Bob Kirshner --- IUE (and HST?) UV data
Additional participants in the AAS informal discussion on SN 1993J
will be:
Michael Richmond --- progenitor
S. Van Dyk et al. --- radio observations
G. Sonneborn --- UV spectrophotometry (in addition to a brief
summary of Wednesday's talk on circumstellar emission)
Doug Swartz --- optical/IR spectral modeling at t = 30-40 days.
Keep observing, modeling, and theorizing!
Cheers,
Alex Filippenko
PS. For those of you going crazy about the possibility of ANOTHER supernova:
the apparent SN in M63 is a false alarm, I've been told by observers in Kiso.
