It appears to say that an observer in Hof, Bavaria? may have observed a NEW STELLAR OBJECT of magnitude 12 50 arc seconds due east of the nucleus of M63. Msg recorded May 17 time unclear. I could find no star in this place on photos which is absent from the Supernova Search chart of 'The Astronomer' or the corresponding chart by Thompson/Bryan. Gary Poyner, Birmingham, UK managed to check the galaxy visually on 1993 May 18.898UT after a fortunate break in the clouds and noted a star of mag 13.0 visual about 50 arc seconds east which is definitely not on the chart of 'The Astronomer'. I can find no asteroidal candidate or entry in the GCVS/NSV. Could someone investigate this please? Regards, Guy M Hurst Editor, The Astronomer
