Subject: Early Spanish Estimates of SN 1993J
Blindern, Oslo 1993 April 23
Dear Gerard de Vaucouleurs, Taichi Kato, and Guy Hurst,
I have received the following fax report from Jose Ripero:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
We enclose our light estimates and comparison star sequence for our
early observations of SN 1993J.
Date U.T. Mag. Estimate Observer
Mar 28 21h45m 12.0 *120=SN Francisco Garcia
Mar 28 23 35 11.5 *C(4)SN(2)*F
Mar 29 23 00 11.2 *C(2)SN(3)*F
Mar 30 20 15 10.0 *A(5)SN(2)*B
Mar 31 20 15 10.6 *B(1)SN(5)*F
Mar 29 19 45 11.0 *C(2)SN(4)*D Jose Ripero
Mar 30 20 30 10.0 *A(4.5)SN(2.5)*B
Mar 31 21 15 10.5 *B(1)SN(4)*E
Mar 29 19 45 11.2 *B1(2)SN(3.5)*F Francisco Pujol
Mar 30 22 00 10.0 *A(3)SN(2)*B1
Mar 31 20 30 10.6 *B1(2)SN(1)*C
Diego Rodriguez has used star *F for his observations with the
CCD camera.
Our early estimates were based on the Thompson-Bryan chart, but we
revised our magnitudes when we received the chart of NGC 3031 from
AAVSO Alert Notice 169.
Comparison stars: *A = 9.4, *B = 10.3W, *C = 10.3E, *D = 11.7,
*E = 11.4 (Richmond's star A), *F = 11.9, *120 = 12.0.

It should be noted that the times have been revised for some of
the observations. In order to make these estimates comparable with
other sequences I have compiled a list of identifications and
magnitudes from some other sources:
Star The Astronomer Thompson-Bryan H.Corwin M.Richmond A.Sandage
*A B 9.4 mv 94 9.4 - - - W - - -
*B - - - 103W 10.3 - - - - - - - - -
