McNaught (Anglo-Australian Observatory) from an film taken by him using the Uppsala Southern Schmidt at Siding Spring on 1993 Apr 17.5 UT; (equinox 2000.0, uncertainty 0".3 in each coordinate) Nova RA 17h25m06.42 Dec -23d11'10".7 Star ~12 mag 17 25 00.21 -23 10 21".9 This position does not correspond to any object on the SERC J survey plate (limit about 21.5) taken 1976 May 29, UKST I on 1980 Aug 5, ESO B 1976 Apr 5 nor ESO R 1984 Jul 25. The nearest star measured from the J survey was about mag 18.5 at RA 17h25m06s.61 Dec -23d11'13".9 (equinox 2000.0, uncertainty 0".3 in each coordinate). The mag 12 star had end figures 00s.17, 21".5. Cheers, Rob
