Below are the data for the light curve of supernova 1993J,
at least to the extent that I have got them. It includes
data from many amateurs around the world, all reports in IAU
circulars up to Friday evening, april 9, 1993,
and some 'inside info' from a few colleagues, notably
Michael Richmond. I have tried to
include estimates measurement errors and notes about
the reference system used, but these were quite frequently
unavailable. The different columns in the (rather long)
lines are magnitudes with errors (0 error or magnitudes
mean 'value unavailable'), ranging from U (Ultraviolet light)
to K (infrared). When you plot the data, you will notice that
in many bands there are a few light curves, as it were 'parallel'.
This is because different astronomers are using different
calibrations for the standard stars, or have not yet calibrated
their measurements. This will get fixed.
Now a request of my own: Michael and I received many reports from
amateurs from all over the world, and as you can see we compiled
an impressive coverage of the first maximum. But lately, reports
have been less frequent, especially from Europeans and Japanese,
who were contributing so well initially. So please, if you
have measurements, preferably with error estimates and preferably
relative to the reference stars and magnitudes posted by
Michael Richmond earlier, mail them to me (rw@astro.princeton.edu).
I promise to post an update to the list about once a week, so
everyone can profit from the community effort.
All reported magnitudes for SN1993J collected by Ralph Wijers, Princeton.
UTs are rounded to 0.01 day
magnitude errors are in units of 0.01 mag, minus sign means upper limit.
