[vsnet-history 454] V1055 Ori (nova net)

V1055 Ori

V and K band imagery of V1055 Ori were obtained by R.M. Wagner, D. DePoy,
R. Blum, and R. Bertram (Ohio State University) on March 5.1 UT at the Hall
1.1-m and the Perkins 1.8-m telescopes. Photometry of the V-band image gives
V ~ 20. The K-band results are not availble as yet, but we estimated that K
is also about 20. At 5.1 UT the magnitude of V1055 Ori was certainly not
consistent with a 13th mag star as reported by S. Takahashi on March 5.47 UT
through Paul Camilleri. Our V-band image of V1055 Ori and the adjacent field
stars looks very similar to the V-band image presented by Gottwald et al.
(1991, A&A Suppl. 89, 367) except we derived a slightly fainter magnitude
compared to their estimate of 18.5. These observations do not discount the
possibility of an outburst later that night. One should bear in mind
however, that the field has several 13-14 mag stars immediately surrounding
V1055 Ori and some of these may not be in the GSC.
