VISUAL OBSERVATION OF COMET P/SWIFT - TUTTLE 1992T
David A. J. Seargent (The Entrance NSW Australia) reports his observation
of P/Swift-Tuttle on Febraury 19.81UT, Mag. 9.3 Coma diameter 3 - 4 arc
mintues; DC 4? David says that there is little enhancement using the
Lumicon Swan Band filters. 25 X 100mm Binoculars were used for the
observation and the comet was very low down in the Dawn sky.
David add's that Reinder Bouma predicted that the comet would be around 9.4
- 9.5 on Feb 19 buy using the H10 = 4.3 and the 20log r formula, this was
based on an observation by someone on 20th September 1862 as they reported
they could see the comet with the naked eye, as the comet was in the
Milky Way and using that formula Bouma calculated that the magnitude would
have been 4.4. David add's that if the comet was diffuse as it appeard at
the time of his observation (Feb 19) it may have been diffuse on September
20th 1862 and this may have not allowed the observer to pick it out of the
Milky Way with the naked eye. Bouma predictes the brightness to fall to
10.1 by Febraury 28th. Below is the observation written in ICQ format.
