Date: Wed, 14 Oct 92 00:31:35 +1000 From: camiller@latcs1.lat.oz.au (Paul Camilleri) (forwarded message) Paul, On your message to the CBAT you give no limiting mag on Union I make the image 3' N and 1' E of the bright star. Sent to CBAT Probable nova in Sagittarius I confirm Paul's nova on a pair of CCD images taken with the 1.0-m at Siding Spring on Oct 13.54 UT. The nova's position is R.A. = 18h20m37s Decl. = -23 01'.4 (equinox 1950). Paul's (1950) coordinates are from an incorrect convertion of his (1875) coordinates (given to me as 18h15m.9 -23 4' (1875) from which I derived 18h20m.5 -23 02' (1950)) The nearest possible candidate on the ESO B and R and SERC J surveys is a star of around mag 18. It lies about 3' N and 1' E of SAO 186756. I didn't notice any motion in the field when I blinked the frames, but it is worth checking asteroids. Cheers, Rob
