[vsnet-grb 42] (fwd) HETE Notices formats

(fwd) HETE Notices formats

Some of you have been asking about the format of the HETE Notices -- and
understandably so. While not yet complete, there is something available
to allow you to start efforts on handling these new Notice types on your end.

For the socket sites, the URL:
http://gcn.gsfc.nasa.gov/gcn/sock_pkt_def_doc.html
describes the contents of the 4 basic subtypes of HETE Notices.
Along with all the old packets available, it contains new sections
listing the 90% of what you'll need to know. I say 90%, because there are
still a few holes. The remaining 10% will be completed soon or when the
HETE messages start flowing. (Unlike the initial effort with BATSE, where
the BATSE content was already in place and well known, the HETE messages
will be new to everyone and will likely have a few odds-n-ends to be learned
as we all get up the new-mission learning curve.)

The email formats will be very similar to the IPN_POSITION Notices.
There will be 4 corners specified for one or both of the WXM and SXC
instrument location determinations. There will be a few new fields (tokens)
as well for specific features within the HETE instruments (trigger timesscales
and signal-to-noise detection significance). There will also be tokens
and/or comments about the trigger type (eg, burst, x-ray src, etc; much like
was done in the BATSE-based Notices). Examples of email will be posted
on the GCN web site and announced soon.

Sincerely,
Scott Barthelmy (GCN Operations)
