[vsnet-grb-info 1296] Probably GCN Outage due to Huricane

TO: All GCN Circuluars and Notices Clients

Due to the huricane, Goddard Space Flight Center is taking precautions
to protect its infrastructure. This may include shutting down
all of its networks, computers, and other systems. The situation is uncertain
as to how wide this protection will be. If the outage does occur,
it will start some time today (after 16:00 UT, Thurs, 18 Sep 2003) and
will likely continue until at least late Friday (the minimum expected outage is ~30 hrs).
The outage could last longer if there is storm damage to the electrical grid
supplying power to GSFC.

This outage affects (1) the GCN Notices (emails, sockets, cells, pagers, etc)
(2) the GCN Circulars, and (3) the GCN web site. All parts will go down and come back
at the same time (they are dependant on the availability of the Internet).

I will send out another announcement when the GCN system is back
on the air (collecting and distributing burst information).

I apologize for the loss of service and data.

Sincerely,
Scott Barthelmy
