[vsnet-grb-info 309] (fwd) Possible GRB020801

Hi,

the updated location of the 'probable-definite' GRB 020801 centered on
coordinates 21 02 14 -53 46 13 within a 28' diameter
as per the HETE groundanalysis 2177, Seq_Num: 6

was imaged by:
CCD observations on 2 August 2002
observer: Berto Monard MLF, Pretoria, South Africa
Bronberg observatory / CBA Pretoria
location: -25 54' 48", 2826' 44"E, altitude 1590m
instrumentation: LX200 12" f/4.2 with ST-7E unfiltered
conditions: the target area was near zenith with clear weather and a
dark sky background

More than 7 images, of duration 45 sec each, were made of an area
centered on the specified position:
this area was somewhat larger than a rectangular 17 arcmin E to W and
12 arcmin N to S. This means that only a (central) part of the HETE
specified area was imaged.

The combined image (by stacking the 7 best (sharp / non trailed)
images) had a limiting magnitude of at least magnitude 20 (CR).

Visual inspection of this image did not show any new or obviously
brightened exisiting objects when compared to DSS1 and DSS2-red images
up to a CR magnitude of 19.0.
The above statement must be considered accurate to a confidence level
of 95%.

There is a hint of slight enhancement of an existing object.

I keep the image available for eventual later checks.

Regards,

Berto Monard
