I verified several cases using source charts from the discovery papers. I then looked in SIMBAD to see which variables were shown with approximate coordinates (there were several). Since most of the stars mentioned were fairly bright, they already had precise positions in SIMBAD from Tycho-1. For the others, I then sent a note to Gerard Jasniewicz (who takes care of such things in SIMBAD), and he has already corrected the positions for the relevant stars in database. There was also an error in SIMBAD itself that was taken care of at the same time. Following on the posts from yesterday, Berto Monard pointed out another SIMBAD error (a CV star given as a galaxy in SIMBAD). This too is already fixed. >> I hope Taichi Kato's GCVS2000..... The current Moscow GCVS version is from December 2001. My concern, frankly, is not with correcting the GCVS---as Kato-san points out, they rightly keep their own counsel on such matters. Instead, I worry about improving SIMBAD, which is much more likely to be the first stop for any researcher looking up specific variable stars. It is also updated daily with additions, corrections, and new bibliographic references. \Brian
