It is on p1672 of the paper by Shaun M.G. Hughes (Astron.J 97, no. 6,1634, 1989). It certainly agrees with HDE 269279. However, the characters of the two stars are completely different. HDE 269279 is a foreground F0 star (V=10.235, B-V = 0.237, U-B = 0.142 acc. to Gochermann et al Astron. Astrophys. 99,591, 1993), while Hughes's star is a red LMC variable, apparently, found in a survey using IR plates. The variability data is all in Ic magnitudes. This does not make sense. Could Hughes's star be a close companion to HDE 269279, and not clearly identified in his finder chart? Regards, Mati morel@ozemail.com.au http://vsnet.ozemail.com.au/~morel
