From: Afoevb@aol.com Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 08:23:30 EDT Chat 4340 : TMZ85, TMZ085 or TMZ0085 --> TMZ999 ! In 1907 the 54th variable in Cygnus obtained the name ZZ Cyg and the special commission of the Astronomische Gesellschaft planed to use for the following star the name RRR Cyg. Finally Ristenpart, a member of the commission, suggested the name AA Cyg. The combination AA-AZ, BB-BZ .... QQ-QZ allowed 334 names. An other member of the commission felt that a star named QZ reached never or in "an extremely distant future" ... wich occured 22 years later with the denomination QZ Sgr. TMZ9999, perhaps in 2005? Chat 4351-4352 : V0374AND, NSV07373. The GCVS use this denomination. If the variables are designated CYG0751, CYG1974, the sorting is easier as CYG751, CYG1974. I am working under DOS and DOS accept only eight marks. That's why I prefer the notation ANDV0374 or NSV00895, also TMW0085. A specific problem (for me) are spelling of files for peculiar names as UMAXTEJ1118+240 or UMAMARKARIAN421 : I create a file PECSTARS with lines PEC1, PEC2, and so on : PEC1 : AND - suspected star by Cifuentes PECx : UMA XTEJ....
