From: Marcus Gunnarsson <marcus@astro.uu.se> Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 17:02:28 +0200 Dear Colleague, There are only 13 weeks to go until the 25th General Assembly in Sydney. Everything you need to know is on the meeting website, www.astronomy2003.com, but I'm writing to highlight some important dates and details. REGISTRATION If you plan to attend the General Assembly but have not yet registered, please do so now. The discounted `earlybird' registration rate finishes on 30 April. Attendees who have been awarded IAU travel grants should register by 30 April. Authors presenting papers must register by 15 May for their abstracts to appear in the abstract book. Free registration is available to media with acceptable credentials (and to some students of journalism and science writing). Please register in advance of the meeting. A media registration form can be reached from the registration page on the GA website. VISAS Everyone except Australian and New Zealand citizens needs a visa to come to Australia. We recommend you apply by 1 May. We can send you a letter of invitation if you need one. Please see the GA website for details. ABSTRACTS The organisers of S218, Young Neutron Stars and their Environments, will accept poster abstracts (and revised abstracts for oral presentations) until 9 May. PROGRAM The final program for the General Assembly, representing the state of planning of the scientific events at the end of April, will appear in the Program Booklet. IAU Information Bulletin 93, to be issued in June, will contain agendas, timetables, and some miscellaneous information about the GA. EXHIBITORS Hiring an exhibit booth for the meeting entitles you to two free registrations. BILLETING An excellent way to cut accommodation costs in Sydney is to be billeted with Sydney families during the GA. A website bulletin board to deal with billeting requests can be accessed from the GA website. The program is being managed by Jon Everett of the University of New South Wales, and enquiries can be emailed to him at jon@phys.unsw.edu.au. TOURS Sight-seeing around Sydney, trekking through the desert, diving on the Great Barrier Reef or visiting Australia's observatories ... No matter what you want to do, we can arrange a great tour for you, before or after the conference. To see what's on offer, go to www.astronomy2003.com and click on `tours'. We can also arrange individual itineraries. Just send your requirements to iau@gtaus.com.au or fax +61 2 9954 0421. See you in Sydney!
