Dear Colleagues,
This is to announce the meeting "The Magnetized Interstellar Medium"
which will be held in Antalya, Turkey, on 8-12 September 2003,
supported by the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Radioastronomie, the Turkish
Astronomical Association and the Akdeniz University. Please note that
The registration deadline for the meeting is April 3, 2003.
After the very unexpected discovery of depolarized filamentary
structures within highly variable polarized Galactic emission a first
International Galactic Polarization Workshop was held in Bonn (1998),
where groups from all over the world working in the area of
polarization measurements discussed their results. The field is
rapidly growing and the Bonn workshop was followed by workshops in
Montreal (2000) and Bologna (2001). The next workshop of this series
will take place in Antalya, Turkey. This conference will have a
slightly wider scope and will cover the following topics:
-Galactic radio polarization
-Origin of depolarized filaments
-SNRs and ISM
-Magnetic fields in galaxies
-Faraday rotation in galaxies
-Rotation measure studies of pulsars
and extragalactic sources
-Zeeman splitting
-Dust polarization
-Polarized foreground effects of CMB observations
-SKA + LOFAR and the future of radio astronomy.
There will also be sessions to present recent results in the form of
student lectures.
Detailed information about the meeting can be found at

About Antalya
-------------
The principal holiday resort of the Mediterranean is the lovely region
of Antalya, in south-west Turkey, with a majestic coastline of beaches
and rocky coves where the towering Toros (Taurus) Mountains, which are
about 3000 meters high, provide a magnificent backdrop. The region is
bathed in sunshine for 300 days of the year! Antalya is an attractive
city, at an altitude of only about 50 meters, with shady, palm-lined
boulevards, a prize-winning marina and a picturesque old quarter
called Kaleici which has narrow, winding streets and quaint, old,
wooden houses next to the city walls.
Antalya (Attaleia) is named after Attalus II, a king of Bergama
(Pergamon), in 2nd century B.C. However, the findings of
archeological digs, carried out in and around Antalya, imply that the
region was inhabited 50 thousand years ago! It is known that the city
was ruled by ancient civilizations including Hitites and Lydians. One
after the other, the Romans, Byzantine and Seldschuken came on their
campaigns of conquest to Antalya until the town came under Ottoman
control in the 14th Century.
Easily accessible via an international airport (7 km to the conference
center), the town is also the economic center of a rich, agricultural
region. The town is strongly in the hands of the tourists in the
summer months. It has an extensive tourist infrastructure with
numerous entertainment and shopping opportunities, a picturesque old
town as well as interesting sights in the town center and in the
immediate area.
