Second Announcement
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
on
CLASSICAL NOVA EXPLOSIONS
Sitges (Barcelona), Spain
20-24 May 2002
WEB page: http://www.ieec.fcr.es/novaconf
Dear colleagues,
The response to the first announcement of the Classical Nova Conference
has been very enthusiastic. Around 100 scientists from different countries
have submitted the early registration form. From the submitted abstracts we
have outlined a preliminary conference programme, that you can find enclosed
below.
In this second circular we include information regarding the following
aspects:
. final submission of abstracts: deadline MARCH 11, 2002
. preliminary programme
. accommodation: the hotel reservation form should be submitted before
FEBRUARY 4, 2002, in order to guarantee accommodation in Hotel Antemare.
. other organization details: registration fee, banquet, ...
. important dates
SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATION
=======================
The scientific programme includes a series of invited review talks (30
min.), as well as contributed talks (20 min.) and posters. A substantial
amount of time for viewing and discussing the posters, as well as for
general discussion, will be available. All contributions will be published
in a book (10 pages for review talks, 6 pages for oral contributions and
posters). Further details will be provided in the final announcement, by
April 2002.
An abstract book will be distributed to the conference attendees. Since in
some cases the titles and abstracts submitted by November 1 were tentative,
we strongly encourage ALL PARTICIPANTS to fill the form attached at the end
of this message, for updates. Those of you who already submitted titles and
abstracts in final form, should only state in the form that no changes are
due.
The submission deadline for this "Scientific Contributions: Final Titles and
Abstracts" form is MARCH 11, 2002.
PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME
=====================
The names of the sessions and their ordering are tentative. The order of
contributions within each session is also tentative. The type of contribution
has to be decided in some cases (authors will be contacted).

CONFERENCE VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION
==========================
=========
The conference will take place at Hotel Antemare, a 4-star charming hotel,
suited for conference venues (hotel WEB page: http://www.antemare.com).
Details regarding transportation to Sitges (a nice coast town near Barcelona)
will be provided in the Final Announcement.
The conference will start early on Monday 20 May 2002 and end in the early
afternoon of Friday 24 May 2002. A welcome cocktail will be offered in Hotel
Antemare on Sunday 19 May 2002 evening. All the details will be provided in
the Final Announcement.
We have booked a number of rooms for conference attendees in Hotel Antemare at
special rates. All the conference attendees can be, in principle, accommodated
in the conference hotel. However, since Sitges is a very touristic place
already in May, conference participants are requested to fill in the Hotel
Reservation Form attached at the end of this Circular and to fax it directly to
Hotel Antemare (FAX Number: 34-93-894.63.01) before FEBRUARY 4, 2002. To
guarantee booking, all reservations must be accompanied by a deposit
corresponding to one night room rate. Cancellations will be possible, but they
must be received before APRIL 1, 2002, for refund.
Room rates, per night, at Hotel Antemare:
single room: 87.15 Euros, double room: 105.18 Euros
Rates include buffet breakfast and are subject to 7% taxes.
REGISTRATION FEE
================
The registration fee will be 150 Euros (tentative value), and it should be
paid by all participants, upon arrival, at the registration desk. The fee
will cover coffee breaks, abstract book and proceedings, as well as the
welcome cocktail. We have scheduled a conference dinner for attendees
and accompanying persons on Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at the nice modernist
building "Palau Maricel" (at town centre), one of the Sitges architectural
jewels, built in 1910. Tickets for the Conference Banquet (including a guided
tour to Palau Maricel) will be on sale upon registration.
We expect to provide some financial support for young scientists as well as for
participants presenting contributions who really need it. Details will be
given in the Final Announcement.
IMPORTANT DATES
===============
* Deadline for submission of the hotel reservation form: FEBRUARY 4, 2002
* Deadline for the submission of information regarding final titles and
abstracts of the scientific contributions: MARCH 11, 2002
* Third and final announcement: April 2002
We are looking forward to meeting you in Sitges in what we expect to be a
great conference. With best wishes for the New Year 2002,
