The requirements are a Ph.D. and a demonstrated ability and commitment to excellence in independent research and teaching. The successful candidate is expected to join the research and teaching activities of the Department and to strongly interact with students. Presently, the Department includes eight faculty and seven postdocs doing research in areas of observational and theoretical cosmology, extragalactic and stellar astrophysics. There are 13 graduate students and about 100 undergraduate students in astronomy. We are interested in developing the Department particularly in areas related to theory and mm-radio astronomy. However, applicants from all areas of astrophysics are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have access to the 10% of all the telescope time in Chile, including VLT, Gemini, Magellan and ALMA telescopes. Teaching duties are in astronomy and physics, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Preference will be given to candidates able to teach in Spanish within a year.
