For those of you that visit the Sirius Astronomy website in search of
charts, there are some changes I'd like to inform you of.
The number of files listed under the Henden Sumner pages
http://joevp.20m.com/charts/hscharts/index.html
has been drastically reduced. This is in anticipation of the imminent
release of 270 AAVSO charts of the same stars. These charts will be in the
familiar AAVSO format, and are the latest updated versions of the sequences
created by Arne Henden and Bruce Sumner. Please visit the AAVSO website for
details.
http://charts.aavso.org/
I will still place charts on the Henden Sumner pages for stars that AAVSO
does not have charts for, newly created sequences, and stars that *should*
have new AAVSO charts. Eventually, these may also be replaced by AAVSO
charts.
The charts that are now listed under SXN Charts
http://joevp.20m.com/charts/sxncharts/
are charts that I have created the sequences for as well as the charts. Some
of these are CCD(V) from Arne's files and some are USNO A2.0 (V) for lack of
a better source. These should all be considered 'preliminary visual'
sequences.
As additional nights of photometry are gathered, I expect Bruce will create
final versions of the CCD(V) sequences and new charts will be placed on the
Henden Sumner pages.
The charts for CVs discovered by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
http://joevp.20m.com/charts/sloan/
all have CCD(V) sequences. There are four more to complete the "set" of
original discoveries that will be done in the next week or so. I expect to
be adding to this page as more data is released. It is believed some 400 CVs
will be unearthed by this survey when complete. I'll try to make charts for
the most promising and interesting ones.
I have not edited any of the files for stars for southern observers
http://joevp.20m.com/charts/aussiecharts/
I will be checking to make sure the Henden sequences match what the AAVSO
will be putting out, so if you check back in a week or so and notice a file
with a recent modification, download that one to replace the former version.
The rest are Sumner preliminary sequences based on UCAC 1 that will probably
stand until better photometry is available.
We hope to continue to offer a website that provides observers a place to
look for variable star charts that aren't available any place else, and
alternative charts to some of the poor charts in existence.
Clear skies and happy hunting,
Mike Simonsen
