Re: [vsnet-chart 391] Comments on the current chart discussions
Dear Dr. Mattei,
I have visited the web page you mentioned. The present work by the
AAVSO is appreciated, since the removal of inconsistencies on existing
charts and sequences is one of the urgent tasks of the present-day
variable star organizations.
As a matter of fact, I expected to see on that page some sort of
a summary of discussions by the AAVSO members, selection criteria of
comparison stars from CCD/PEP photometry, or anything practical,
but I understand from your later words that these things can be more
adequately represented by an international group, rather than under
the control or authority of the AAVSO. As of improving the existing
AAVSO charts, you are making an excellent job!
Since it seems that standarization of selection criteria of comparison
stars, catalog selection, etc. are not yet substantiated in any widely
approved form, we shall concentrate on these matters (which will become
more important in the coming era of all-sky surveys), as well as other
problems (sometime case studies) in the existing software/catalogs/charts
and the way of using them.
Regards,
Taichi Kato
