Re: [vsnet-obs 38512] Magnitude p of variable stars
Dear Toni,
Please don't report observations based on *incorrect* identifications.
Report only on variable stars with reliable identifications.
The primary source of the variable star catalog is GCVS at
http://ftp.sai.msu.su/pub/groups/cluster/gcvs/
Unless you have reliably identified publications (published charts),
first consult the above catalog to see whether your identification is
confirmed or position is revised. If this is not the case, these observations
should not be reported, but stored in your computer until secure
identifications become available. Popular star chart softwares are USELESS
for this purpose. This confimation process is as fundamental as checking
known comets before reporting a discovery of a new comet!
Because of these uncertainties in your report, I have to discard half
of your observations! Please report RELIABLE observations only!
If you continue submitting UNRELIABLE observations, I will be obliged to
discard all your reports.
And please use the VSNET format
http://vsnet.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/vsnet/etc/format.html
not your own. For example,
EYHya 20020214.877 m1=10.152+-0.15 p TSc
should be written (there is no concept of m1 in variable star photometry)
HYAEY 20020214.877 10.152p TSc (+/-0.15)

Taichi Kato
