A list of freshly analysed possibly variable stars from the Tycho data annexes can be found at the CDS ftp site under the J/A+A/373/576 subdirectory. Although some are identified with GCVS objects and some with NSV objects, none _seem_ to have been checked against Namelist 75 or the supplement to the NSV. A millidegree level check against Taichi Kato's newvar.cat datafile of unofficial and potential variables reveals no link with any of those suspect variables to those noted in the new Tycho table, but of the potentially variable objects that he also lists in newvar.cat, several of the Luminous Milky Way stars are suggested to be variable according to this fresh analysis of Tycho Epoch Photometry. List follows:- newvar.cat Tycho ID HIP No. > LSV+55.2 3690 1948 1 1069 > LSV+57.33 3694 1727 1 > LSI+61.282 4046 118 1 > LSV+35.12 2402 6 1 2517 > LSII+27.26 2148 3858 1 > LSIII+55.25 3973 1031 1 > LSIII+47.58 3611 701 1 11092 > LSI+59.24 4281 2033 1 > LSS4360 6840 821 1 8689 > LSS4857 6269 2398 1 all the rest of the matches to newvar.cat are known GCVS stars, with 1 NSV object (Q1996/035 = Tyc 753 1231 1 = NSV 3369) The above are mostly going to be low amplitude variables, either in need of photometric follow up or of a Sebastian type visual observer ;) ) Cheers John John Greaves UK
