I am very sad to have to inform you that Alan Cousins died last night.
He had not been well for several weeks and during this last week, he
slept most of the time and hardly ate or drank. As far as I know at this
stage, he died quite peacefully at about 3 am this morning. He was about
3 months short of his 98th birthday and will be very much missed. It feels
like the end of an era.
Doubtless there will be official notification, but I thought it would be
better to let as many as possible of his friends and colleagues know first.
