Some weeks ago somebody (I think it was Dr* Kato) was asking about a Nova
suspect in Cepheus in 1983.
In the BAA Variable Star Section Circular No 78, December 1993 the
following reference appears:-
'Nova Cep 1983'
A Stop Press announcement in TA230 (1983 Jun) reported that Minoru Honda
had recorded an object of mag 7.5 at RA 22h11m58.03s, Dec +56D46m19.9 on a
single exposure on 1983 Jun 1. Further exposures on Jun 3, however,
recorded no object brighter than mag 13.5. However, on Jun 4 and Jun 5, J
Morgan recorded a stellar object of 10th magnitude near the reported
position.
Guy Hurst would probably be able to help further with the TA reference, I
unfortunately do not have access to TA's as far back as 1983.
No much I know, but it might help a little,
Regards
Chris J
(* Forgive me if the honorific is incorrect. I wasn't sure if it should be
Dr Kato, Prof Kato, Kato-san, or something else).
