When looking up "best" photometric values for brighter stars, it is
best to avoid catalogues such as Tycho-1/2 and instead have a look at
published photoelectric data. This can be scanned at Jean-Claude Mermilliod's
GCPD site starting at:
http://obswww.unige.ch/gcpd/gcpd.html
...and doing queries by star name (HD number are best) in the "General Index"
link.
The Hipparcos data are useful for assessing small-amplitude variability
among bright stars, but not for obtaining magnitudes/colors on the standard
system.
