Last night I decided to look for the star called "var Crucis" in AAVSO
charts. (1250-60).
The estimate was negative (<12.5).
Then I went inside and checked the star in the GCVS in order to find type or
other data.
I found that this star is NSV 19455.
I didn't realize that it was a star discovered in May 30, 1995 by some
friends of mine here in Argentina. They are Gustavo Ballan, Víctor Busso and
a team working for the Observatorio Cristo Rey in Rosario.
It's important to recall that the amplitude quoted in the different sources
is wrong, since it is not V, but unfiltered CCD magnitude.
(see vsnet-chat 3519).
So the actual maximum is near 12th magnitude.
Which means , I will not try it again !!!!
Best wishes,
Sebastian.
