U Piscis Austrini - an RR Lyrae type variable U PsA is unclassified in the GCVS with a spectral class of GO: with a variation range from 12.5 to <14.0. This star was first drawn to my attention by articles in SKY & SPACE by Peter Williams. The observations from a few observers attributed possible periods of 117 an 235 days. Analysed visual observations from RASNZ suggested that it was a semi-regular variable, SRd, with a period of ~35 days. My visual observations over the period 1996 to 2000 revealed short term fluctuations and a DFT analysis by Stan Walker revealed a period of 0.54187 days. This was confirmed by Stan with CCD measures during the 2000 season. The shape, period and light curve indicate that U PsA is an RR Lyrae variable star. A detailed paper will appear shortly in the JAAVSO. Regards, Rod Stubbings.
