Hi folks,
I recently acquired the new book of Richard Berry and James Burnell, called
"Handbook of Astronomical Image Processing" (Willmann-Bell Inc). This is
excellent reading and a must for all CCD users !!
Inside the back cover of the book is a CDROM, which includes full-featured
software for CCD image processing, called AIP4WIN. Among others, it has an
aperture photometry function, which is extremely fast and produces excellent
results. I have spent several months looking at alternatives for my "MIPS"
photometry software, which I have been using over the past years for
reducing nearly 100,000 FITS files. Having worked with AIP4WIN for a number
of days now, I'm pretty sure I have found the perfect solution.
As a final tip : make sure to download Lew Cook's Excel software, called
AIP4Plot (www.lewcook.com). It's a free add-on to turn the photometric
output file of AIP4WIN into a powerful analysis spreadsheet (including light
curve plot).
