The observations made by members of the AFOEV, french association of variable 
star observers, are storred in machine-readable form into the computer of the 
"Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg" (CDS) at the Strasbourg 
observatory. These observations now number over 2 millions with the first 
recorded observation dating back to 23 April 1898. This database also 
includes observations made by numerous
other associations or observers wich not are members of the AFOEV and 
residing in the five continents. The base includes also observations made by 
professional astronomers and published in several french publications 
(L'Astronomie, Le Journal des Observateurs, Roger Weber's bulletin, etc..). I 
am now retired as the president of the AFOEV and the publisher of our 
bulletin and I intend to intensify the search of older observations in the 
literature.
The observations from our database are supplied free of charge through an 
internet link via ftp at ftp cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr.
