The 5th edition of the Bright Star Catalogue [Hoffleit et al] states that
there are two values listed for the radail velocity of delta Velorum: 0
km/s and +80 km/s.
However, radial velocity catalogues such as the WEB compilation list a
value of around +2 km/s for this system, and a couple of values of that
nature are found via SIMBAD too [WEB and SIMBAD are probably both quoting
Wilson's original 1953 catalogue in part].
Does anyone have any idea of how to track down the provenance/source of
this 80 km/s value?
A reference would be appreciated, but it is the time of the observation
that is the primary datum of interest.
Thanks for your time
