Dear friends:
Last saturday bad weather conditions prevented a reliable confirmation of the
eclipse of delta Velorum. But according to Danie Overbeek in South Africa, no
eclipse was seen between 2451832.5486 and 2451832.6250.
From Uruguay, holes in the clouds let Raúl Salvo (LIADA) try some
estimates. He seems to have noticed a dimming
between 2451832.7251 and 2451832.8333.
This all just mean that we are at the same point as last week: needing more
observations.
Paul D Fieseler, Sequence Integration Engineer of the Galileo Mission,
Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA, informed that another fading was recorded by
Galileo's star scanner in 1989 (JD 2447850.3 - 2447851.0)
This fading doesn't fit with the ephemeris unless the period is decreasing
at a fast rate: 0.001425 days a year (according Paul Fieseler).
However this trend seems not to be present in the last eclipses.
The 67.7 and 5.89 day periods will join in November 2nd offering a great
chance of catching something.
Next event - according the 5.88877 day period will occur next friday night
between 22.30 and 06.30 UT.
Perfect for South African people.
Best regards,
Sebastian Otero.
