Sometimes you see postings where it seems people would like to know what
the old GCVS3 said about a variable: was it the same as in GCVS4.n, or
different, or whatever.
Few enough people own paper copies of the GCVS4 [I know I don't], let
alone GCVS3, most probably having either ecopies or having it as part of
their planetarium software, or using some webserver or other.
Well, funnily enough an ecopy of the gcvs3 lives on, hidden away at:
http://vsnet.ira.bo.cnr.it/dira/
then select the GETCAT link, then scroll down to the GCVS3 item in the
dialogue, and then press the SUBMIT button. You'll be given a file to
save. Save it to hard disk, it'll be 1Mb big. It's [unix] Z
compressed: winzip'll cope with this, but it won't be able to
automatically name it, and will ask. Call it ought you want.
You'll end up with a just over 5 Mb ascii GCVS3 [whatever you do, don't
use the positions for anything].
Simple and sufficient documentation lives at:
http://vsnet.ira.bo.cnr.it/dira/docum/gcvs3.txt
Now, don't all go hitting this URL at once!
