[vsnet-chat 3078] (fwd) Globular Variables (Greaves)

(fwd) Globular Variables (Greaves)

Subject: Globular Variables

Quite some time ago I used the following files :-

========
.../5/5097/...

Updated 3rd Cat Variable Stars in Globular Clusters (Clement+ 1997)

Preliminary Fourth Edition of the Catalogue on Variable Stars in
Globular Clusters
Clement C.    <unpublished  (1997)>
A Third Catalogue of Variable Stars in Globular Clusters Comprising 2119
Entries
Sawyer Hogg H. <Publications of the David Dunlap Observatory, University
of
Toronto, Volume 3, Number 6 (1973)>
=======

downloaded from the ADC at ftp.adc.gsfc.nasa.gov to generate a TDF file
for the CGVS, the catalogue of globular variable stars.

The positional data therein is given as plate offsets. I converted
these to ra and dec with reference to a list of J2000 globular cluster
centroid positions.

The matches between common CGVS and GCVS variables were problematic :
there was no systematic offset between the two sets of data: the
differences between the two were _mostly_ systematic for any particular
globular, but they varied between globulars.

The attached zip file contains both TDF and datafile for use in Guide 7
for anyone interested in globular cluster variables with _known_
magnitudes [positions are not plotted for objects of unknown
magnitude]. Although the absolute astrometry is not guaranteed, the
relative astrometry between the intracluster variables is solid enough.

As usual, unzip the files into your Guide 7 Directory. Objects are stars
plotted at max mag. and default to on.

The two bright cepheids in M5 would just about be suitable for visual
observers.

Cheers

John
