<I wonder how
quickly these "super-observers" locate the fields and change magnifications
to accomodate these faint variables.>
Taichi,
I think Gene Hanson is probably the record holder. The secret is to have
fresh sets of binoculars ready at hand for the bright ones and total
disregard for the flames coming out from the bottom of the Dob.
From previous report-
CRBR 000609.166 66 HSG.AAVSO throws binos to the ground and
swings 18" to TCrB
CRBT 000609.166 106 HSG.AAVSO
CVNTX 000609.167 105 HSG.AAVSO sticks low power EP into pocket
with melted Klondike bar
CAMZ 000609.168 124 HSG.AAVSO Gene's favorite variable- his
telescope knows the way
GEMAW 000609.169 <142 HSG.AAVSO oh yeh, almost forgot (as they
sink behind distant mountain)
GEMU 000609.170 142: HSG.AAVSO
Later that morning...
PEGHX 000609.430 150: HSG.AAVSO I think I saw it, but I'm in a
hurry
PEGIP 000609.431 <154 HSG.AAVSO
CASV723 000609.431 139 HSG.AAVSO
CASUV 000609.431 108 HSG.AAVSO smoke begins to rise from Teflon
bearings
CASGX 000609.432 <152 HSG.AAVSO
CASHT 000609.433 <155 HSG.AAVSO
CASKU 000609.434 134 HSG.AAVSO OUTBURST slow down buddy, you
have to actually make an estimate!
CASAM 000609.435 146 HSG.AAVSO or two- telescope makes groaning
sound
ANDZ 000609.435 108 HSG.AAVSO whoa, did you see that!?
ANDDX 000609.435 146 HSG.AAVSO
ANDLL 000609.436 <148 HSG.AAVSO Now he's moving so fast he
actually observes LL three times in one minute!
ANDLL 000609.436 <148 HSG.AAVSO rattlesnake is shot
ANDLL 000609.436 <148 HSG.AAVSO scorpion is crushed
ANDEG 000609.437 77 HSG.AAVSO fresh set of binos hits the dirt
ANDHP 000609.437 <140 HSG.AAVSO world record run begins
ANDFN 000609.438 <147 HSG.AAVSO
ANDFO 000609.439 <154 HSG.AAVSO aw, too easy!
ANDAR 000609.440 <149 HSG.AAVSO
ANDKV 000609.440 <144 HSG.AAVSO ok, so why not go for LX and LS
as long as you're here?
Gene goes on to make many more observations that morning, some in broad
daylight!
My hero.
We're not worthy...
