Dear Patrick,
I am attempting to answer your questions:

If I am not mistake, during a few days, before May 30, CI Aql may be sharp
dropping in its brightness similar to GU Mus and V518 Per.
The current light curve is very similar by amplitudes and shapes.
In this case CI Aql is a X-ray nova.
For the T Pyx type the CI Aql outburst amplitude is enough low.
And their light cirves are enough different.
Best wishes,
Alexander Rosenbush
