    What stars do you propose as the "top 10" variable stars or variable
star phenomena?

    For myself, the following events were partiularly memorable.

    1) Discovery of the optical flash of GRB 990123
    2) Recurrence of U Sco
    3) Giant optical outburst of the X-ray transient V4641 Sgr (former GM Sgr)
    4) Naked-eye nova(e): V382 Vel and V1494 Aql

    What do you propose?

    And what about the "top 10" variables of the centery?
