Here is a first installment of BVRI photometry for stars near or
superposed on galaxies as reported in the Longo & de Vaucouleurs series of
Univ. of Texas monographs. These volumes collect aperture photometry published
through 1985. The list below includes the NGC galaxies up to 6h RA. I have
combined results from the three publications in order to incorporate all
corrections mentioned and to include BVRI colors as far as possible.
As previously, the host galaxy name is shown in the first column.
The star positions are shown next; the letter 'i' preceding the coordinates
indicates the star is isolated from the galaxy and is suitable for general use
in wide-field calibration. The column headed 's' shows the source of the
positions as follows:
A USNO-A2.0
C AC2000
G GSC-ACT
H Hipparcos, ep. 2000
S SkyView DSS image
T ACT or TRC
GSC numbers are given as available. The BVRI data follow. The last column,
which extends past column 80, gives a cryptic description of the location of
the star, which in any case is made unambiguous by the accurate coordinates.
Where there are multiple measurements of the same star, I have taken a
simple average of the results when they are in reasonable accord; more
discrepant cases are rounded to 0.1-mag. precision. In a few cases where
colors from one source are discrepant, I have taken the liberty of omitting
the offending observations. Some fainter stars that have uncertain
identifications are listed separately at the bottom in the same format.
I have added the isolated stars to my general file of photometry of faint
field stars (http://ftp.lowell.edu/pub/bas/starcats/loneos.phot.gz). This file
already contains numerous sequences around galaxies in this swath of RA, such
as all the Sculptor group galaxies.
