..and waiting to be discovered by any good observer!
Because most surveys have been done from the northern hemisphere, our
incompleteness is even greater for southern skies. Many actual and
suspected variables continue to be discovered down here; with nothing
more than an alert eyeball, a knowledgeable brain, and a little bit of
optical assistance.
Two that I've noticed myself are the very red CCCS 2031, and the
cataclysmic(?) variable in front of NGC5128; both with a mere 150mm
aperture from the suburbs. And if I can discover new variables then
anyone can... ;-)
